I understand that not everyone is a mental health worker. And because of that, the whole cutting-because-one's-angry-thing doesn't make much sense. In fact, I'm sure it's fair to say that for most people it makes NO sense. At all.
And I know that when you see the aftermath of a cutter's rage, it's an alarming, bloody mess. (And let me just clarify my word choice. By "bloody", I don't mean bloody in the quirky, charming, British colloquialism sort of way: "She is a bluh-ey mess!" I mean, red, ooey, gooey, literally bloody.)
But honestly.
Really.
Sincerely.
Truly.
If someone gets angry, takes a razor, or a knife, or glass, or any other one of a million sharp objects available to him and starts hacking away at his arms, he's really NOT suicidal. I promise.
He's. Just. Pissed.
And you blindsiding him and calling the ambulance to go pick him up and haul him to the ER after an episode isn't going to change the behavior.
Know why?
Because that's going to piss him off even more. ->

I used to be a cutter. Any time I got caught and my parents tried to hospitalize me, I took it as a personal challenge to be sneakier.
So glad I am past that.
Well said.
I love your Easter eggs...they make me laugh in that way that only a fellow social worker can laugh about something.
i'm glad you found them, Amy.
